06 Feb February Issue of CHILD Magazines
Say hello to our February issue of CHILD magazines. Our education issue focuses on tracing your family tree, child safety, next generation schooling and early childhood development.
Do you know who you are? That is, do you know your family history? TV shows like Who Do You Think You Are? highlight how moving it can be to uncover our family’s past. Tracing back through the generations does more than just tell us our ancestors’ names and where they come from. It reveals their enormous challenges, their achievements and often, their heartbreak. Those achievements lead us to where we live and who we are today. And when we have kids of our own, what an amazing gift it is to pass on their past to them. It is part of their present and their future.
So when the CHILD Mags team got the chance to sample an AncestryDNA test, we jumped at it. I discovered 91 3rd, 4th and 5th cousins in the Ancestry DNA matches, including many I’d never heard of. To see their DNA (if they permitted it to be public) and to compare it to mine was intriguing. Read more about what we found (there were surprises!) in our feature, The Tree of Life. It has tips from a genealogist for getting you started on tracing your own family tree. This might be the 2018 project you were looking for! And if you’re keen to know your genes, enter our competition for your chance to win an AncestryDNA test kit.
This month we’re introducing a new regular ‘Learn’ section covering everything education, from early learning to high school. We’ll bring you news from schools, teachers and education departments, advice from education professionals, findings from educational researchers, book reviews, reports from education conferences, and ideas for making learning richer. As 21st century education evolves, it’s good to be on top of what’s happening, and to spot the underlying sea-changes in what ‘education’ means for our kids.
We hope 2018 is your year!
