Easy Edible Play Dough

Edible modelling clay recipes are perfect for modelling projects or other edible crafts for kids. And when you have finished – you they decorate it and eat it!

Learning to make edible modelling clay makes a great indoor activity. If you have some cookie cutters or shapes then you can let the kids imaginations go wild – knowing that any that gets put into little mouths is totally safe. Or make pretty shapes and place them in a jar to give as gifts.

• Flavoured Playdough Recipe

Who can resist chocolate? This edible play dough is for everyone!

Ingredients:

3 cups powdered/icing sugar
3/4 cup powdered milk
6 tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup soft butter
1/2 cup light corn syrup

Method:

Bring the butter to room temperature so that it is soft (slightly melted). Stir all the ingredients together, and work into a soft clay.

• Sugar Paste Dough

This is a variation of the recipe that cake decorators use to make cake decorations.

Ingredients:

8 gm Gelatine.
50 ml of room temperature water.
50 gm Corn Syrup or Honey.
450 gm Powdered Sugar/Icing Sugar.
10 drops of light vegetable oil.

Method:
Stir the gelatine with the water in a pan. Place on a low heat until the gelatine has dissolved (don’t overheat). Remove pan from heat.
Add the corn syrup/honey and mix well. Then mix in the powdered sugar as much as you can. Mix in the oil, then knead the play dough on a sugared surface until it is smooth and silky.

It should be wrapped in plastic wrap and left overnight before you use it.
